Scammed: Manhunt After SAPs Captain Swindled Of Her R3 Million Pension By Ugandan ‘Boyfriend’

According to ZiMoja, North West police are on the hunt for a man who goes by the name Dr Kalvin Sofika (30) and managed to cheat the pension payout of a retired police captain (53) out of an amount close to R3 million.

The perpetrator, originally from Uganda, posed as a medical doctor and was romantically involved with the retired police captain, report ZiMoja.

The police captain had decided to resign from her position in November 2023, following advice that she need not work or rely on a salary for survival.

The purported boyfriend also introduced her to a traditional healer who advised her to resign to begin earning money.

As a result, the victim lost her pension funds and the amounts borrowed from the suspect, totaling R2.9 million.

The pair had initially met at a high-end Rustenburg complex and began dating.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.

It is also reported that the suspect has relocated following the incident.

Police are looking for Sofika and have since opened cases of fraud and theft.

“The matter is still under investigation and no arrest has been made. It is apparent that the suspect relocated after the incident,” said Mokgwaabone.

A colonel in Limpopo was also swindled of R3.7m by her boyfriend.

Police said at the time that the boyfriend and another man he claimed to have been his uncle convinced the 54-year-old woman to resign and cash out her pension.

The woman resigned in November 2022. She got R3.7m in February last year and handed it to be boyfriend’s uncle to pray for it for a successful business venture she and her man would be embarking on.

The boyfriend then allegedly sent the victim on holiday for a few days. However, when she returned from her holiday and went to the boyfriend’s apartment, he was no longer living there.

Anyone who sees Sofika is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Kabelo Sekanka of Rustenburg Detectives on 082 338 4950.
